Lasting impacts
Mussolini's lasting impact on italy
After Mussolini's death in April of 1945, Italy was in shock. The Italy that Mussolini had created was no longer under his reign and was now free. Italy had not been a place where people could speak or think freely. People coud be at risk of being killed by the Black Shirts, who made up the fascist party. Teachers were also forced to teach students about fascist life, and all students were enrolled in a program that taught them the glories of war. Mussolini had also created Italy into a totalitarian government, where he tried to control almost all aspects of life in order to make Italy seem like a glorious country. After Mussolini's death, the people of Italy were able to come out and speak freely without being at risk of persecution. However, many people only think about the bad aspects of Mussolini's reign. There were some positive effects he had as well. Mussolini reclaimed land for Italy, the Pontine Marshes, which were drained and reclaimed for Rome. With this new land, he created railroads, schools, bridges and more, which was seen as a solution for unemployment. Mussolini also pushed farmers to focus more on farming specific crops, which in the long run made Italy a more self-sufficient country. Later on, he gave industries more money for steel and iron production, while at the same time increasing the use of hydroelectric power. While Mussolini was a dictator and did many questionable things during his lifetime, he was not a failed leader and did manage to do some good things for Italy.
Mussolini's Lasting impact on the world
While Mussolini had a strong lasting impact on Italy, he had a strong lasting impact on the entire world as well. Mussolini's involvement and foundation of the Italian Fascist Party earned him a key role in not only the Italian government, but also peoples minds. His violent speeches and articles later earned him a place as Italy's prime minister, and soon after, Italy's fascist dictator. His creation of fascist Italy inspired Hitler and Stalin both in different ways. When WWII was started by Hitler, both Hitler and Mussolini were close allies. When Mussolini made tactical mistakes, Hitler was there to help him out, even after he was overthrown. However, Mussolini's ambitions got the best of him and led to him being killed. Overall, Mussolini's main impact on the world was his important involvement in the government of Italy and his fascist beliefs that contributed to what some think of as the most devastation period of modern-day history.
